Wm. Barrett Passes Away Here Monday
Well-Known Node Rancher Dies After Brief Illness; Funeral Here Wednesday
William Raymond Barrett of Node passed away at the Lusk Hospital Monday morning, October 3, at nine o'clock, from the effects of a severe attack of gas bacillus infection.
Mr. Barrett had not been well for some time, but it is less than two weeks ago since his condition became alarming when he was brought to the hospital and little hope has been held out for his recovery since that time.
Funeral services were held from the Peet Mortuary Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. B. F. Farrar officiating, interment being made in the Lusk Cemetery. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. J. P. Watson, Mr. Ab DeCastro, J. W. Higgins and Wm. Sherk, with Mrs. Avery Smith accompanist. The pallbearers were L. M. Lynn, T. A. Godfrey, A. C. Tibbetts, Chas. Scace, Harry Baldwin and Archie Voorhees.
Mr. Barrett was born in Iowa, but while still a small boy he moved with his parents to Wayne, Neb., where he lived until coming to Wyoming in 1906. He took up a homestead south of Node, where he has since resided, and was one of the prominent ranchers and farmers in that section of the county.
Mr. Barrett's condition, which ultimately caused his death, was due to a chronic abscess of some two years' standing, which became complicated by a gas bacillus infection.
According to Dr. Reckling, who attended him, this type of infection is invariably fatal where localization of the infection fails to take place. The infection had spread to such an extent that anti-toxin serum proved to be worthless, and his condition was such that a surgical operation could not be performed.
Gas Bacillus infection was one of the big enemies of the medical profession in the late world war.
OBITUARY
William Raymond Barrett was born at Melvin, Iowa, April 1st, 1886, and after a brief illness passed away at the Lusk Hospital, October 3rd, 1932. Thus his pilgrimage was but 46 years, 6 months, and 2 days.
When Billie, as he was familiarly called, was 13 years of age, his parents moved to Wayne, Neb., where he grew to manhood's estate.
In 1906, Mr. Barrett came to Wyoming and took up a homestead south of Node, where he has since made his home.
In June of 1918 he was married to Mabel Flossie Remster. To this union one daughter was born, who is now 13 years of age, and who has for the past six years stayed with her father's folks while she has attended school.
Beside his wife and daughter there remain to mourn his departure two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Hatfield of Plainview, Neb., and Miss Edith Barrett of Wayne, Neb., and one brother, Raburn Barrett, of Omaha, Neb., and many neighbors and friends.
Mr. Barrett had been a sufferer for years from chronic trouble, and it was while he and his wife were planning to visit their daughter at Wayne, Neb., that he was taken seriously ill and was brought to the Lusk Hospital on Tuesday morning of last week. All that could have been done for him was done, but the end had come and he gave up the struggle Monday morning and fell asleep to awake on Resurrection Morn.
