Lorraine was born July 14, 1931 the daughter of Arthur and Mabel (Sanford) Hageman at her maternal grandparent's, Bert and Anna (Rice) Sanford, ranch who were early day settlers in Converse County, Douglas, Wyoming. When she was about two weeks old her folks took her to their dry farm home in the Walker Creek Community northeast of Douglas. She grew up with her three brothers and three sisters learning to ride horseback, milk cows, care for bum lambs, feed chickens and all other chores that need to be done. She received her elementary education at rural Walker Creek School and attended Converse County High School in Douglas. Lorraine graduated in 1948 at the age of 16. She enrolled at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming and received a teaching certificate and thus began a career teaching in rural schools the next ten years in Weston, Campbell, Converse and Teton Counties in Wyoming. While teaching in Campbell County she met Richard Broyles. They were married June 5, 1960 in Douglas. Three children were born to this union. They made their first home on the family ranch outside of Gillette. In 1974 they sold the ranch and purchased a ranch in the Kirtley Community, Niobrara County. Lorraine was a member of 4H growing up and later became a leader when her children were members. She was a 44 year member of Wyoming Homemakers and was chosen for a member of the Quealy Club for outstanding homemakers. She is a member of the Panhandle Doll Club of Scottsbluff, Nebraska and the United Federation of Doll Clubs of America. She has attended many national conventions across the United States always looking for that special doll to add to her collection. Lorraine's grandmother taught her to crochet when she was eight years old and she made many beautiful Afghans and other items. She has made many quilts and was an excellent seamstress. She like to cook, raised gardens and flowers. She was particularly proud of the porcelain dolls that she made. Her family always came first with her and she treasured the time they were together. She was especially happy when the grandchildren came to stay with her. In 1984 she and Richard established a ranch north of Lingle and lived there until retirement and moved to Torrington in 2007.
