Phyllis Anna Hoy

Memorial services for PHYLLIS ANNA HOY, 86, will be held at 10:30am Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Reverend Scott Firminhac officiating. Phyllis died May 2, 2016 at Community Hospital and cremation has taken place. Memorials may be given to either Our Savior Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society. Phyllis was born January 29, 1930 at her parent's home two and a half miles south of Lusk, Wyoming. This home is still owned by her brother Bud Owens. Phyllis was the daughter of Peter Julius and Bertha Helena (Klemke) Owens. She was raised in the home where she was born and attended Lusk grade school and high school. When she was sixteen the family moved to the Royal Apartments in Lusk, which were owned and operated by her parents. She worked at the Lusk Hospital as a nurse's aide, and then for JC Penney as a cashier for several years. On February 19, 1950 she married Donald Lee Hoy at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Lusk with Reverend F.D. Doctor officiating. The couple moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where they lived for twenty years. Phyllis was a "second mom" to many little ones she babysat in her home. She lovingly cared for them and greatly impacted their lives. She stayed in contact with some of the young people and their families. She was involved with her daughters' 4H club as a knitting instructor and was also the secretary-treasurer of a couples bowling league in Cheyenne for twelve years. The couple then moved to Denver, Colorado where she retired from babysitting and became a member of the Altar Guild a Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed bowling, playing pinochle and gardening. Soon after Don retired the couple moved to Torrington, Wyoming where she became a member of the Altar Guild for Our Savior Lutheran Church. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary of Travis Snow Post #5 and was a member of the Goshen County Quilt Club. She enjoyed raising flowers of all kinds but especially orchids, sewing, quilting and crafting.

Phyllis is survived by her son Randy and wife Lynn; daughter Sandy and husband Stephen Barnes; grandsons Cory (Lorie) Hoy, Marc (Katrina) Barnes, Levi (Amber) Ryerson, and Will (Krystie) Dendy, granddaughters Tracy (Jason) Craft, Tana (Dimitri) Wood, Jayme (Jerry) Moerdyke, and Kylee Bell; great grandchildren Shyler, Ashlei and Samantha Hoy, Bethany and Kaitlyn Craft, ZoeyAnn McNeace and Kaylen Wood, Trevor and Owen Moerdyke, Mason and Scarlet Bell, Bella, and Avery and Jaxson Dendy; great-great granddaughter Image Sullivan; brother Robert "Bud" (Shirley) Owens; and sister Velma Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; daughter Gina Ryerson; and twin great grandsons Cory Robert and Randy James Hoy.
