It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the death of John Norman Meier, our beloved son and brother. He passed away February 28, 2016 in Casper, WY. Catholic Mass will be held at the Niobrara County High School Auditorium in Lusk on Saturday March 5, 2016 at 1 o'clock.

John Norman Meier, 38, of Casper, WY, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Wyoming Medical Center. He was born April 21, 1977 in Douglas, WY.

An extraordinary number of people loved John. He earned the respect of everyone he encountered, both professionally and personally. His passing serves as a poignant reminder that even the strongest, brightest, and most vibrant among us can find their way into the arms of God at any moment.

John spent the first part of his life in Lusk, WY, where he attended elementary, middle, and high school. During that time he participated in many sports and extracurriculars. He gave a memorable performance as Jethro in an on-stage rendition of The Beverly Hillbillies, and earned the nickname "Golden Toe' while serving as kicker for the Niobrara County High School football team.

He went on to attend the University of Wyoming, where he demonstrated a deep interest in History and added more lifelong friends to an ever-growing roster.

Later, while working for the City of Lusk, he served on the Lusk Fire Department, one of his proudest achievements. Throughout his life, John loved nothing more than helping other people, and he did so at every opportunity.

Leaving Lusk behind was hard for John, but he went on to become an accomplished professional in the oil & natural gas industry, first in Denver, CO, and then later in Casper, WY. He expressed some reluctance as he took on more and more managerial responsibilities, not because he lacked capacity, but because he cared deeply for the people working under him. Laying people off was particularly devastating to him. He would sometimes give large sums of his own money to those who were affected.

John's interests were diverse, and he dove into each of them as deeply as he could. One of his favorite pastimes was hunting and fishing, and he would often say that nature was his church. He enjoyed fine Scotch whisky and the occasional cigar. He loved the Minnesota Vikings from a young age and remained a loyal fan his entire life. He was a proud supporter of the NRA and owned a sizable collection of beautiful guns. He was passionate about music, from heavy metal to sweeping orchestral soundtracks, and everything in between. Above all, though, he loved God, his family and his friends with all his heart.

He is survived by parents Dennis and Cathy, brother Jeff, sisters Melissa and Cindy, grandmother Martha Hawley and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his grandfather Howard Hawley, grandparents Pete and Dorothy Meier, and uncles Mark and David Hawley.

Services will be held at 1 o'clock on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Niobrara County High School auditorium in Lusk, Wyoming.
