Theodore Meifert, Hat Creek Rancher, Dies Here Sunday

Theodore Meifert, 65, well known rancher from the Hat Creek vicinity died Sunday morning August 22 in the Spencer Hospital. Mr. Meifert had been in poor health.

Funeral services were held in the Peet Chapel Wednesday August 25 at 2:30. Rev. Clyde E. Hampton and Student Pastor James Poland of the Baptist church officiated. Singers were Don Unruh, Rex Yocum, Mrs. Ab DeCastro and Miss Bessie Lumsden and Mrs. J. P. Watson was the organist. Hymns sung for the service were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "We are Going down the Valley." Pallbearers were Fred Bryant, Al Bryant, Dudley Fields, Jim Christian, Henry Kraft and J. P. Jensen. Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery.

Theodore Albert Meifert, son of Theodore and Albertina Meifert was born in Henningsdorf, Germany April 9, 1883. His family came to the United States in 1888 and lived in different states and finally located near Marsland, Nebr. In 1916 "Ted" as he is familiary known located on a homestead east of Hat Creek and has lived there continuously since that time.

He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Kruppe of Denver, Miss Anna Meifert of Marsland, Nebr. and Mrs. Martha Greene of Torrington. He is survived also by one brother, August of Marsland. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

Note: The gravestone and cemetery records previously used the name Theodore L. Mifert. The 1910 and 1930 census used the spelling Mifert. This obituary spelling, Meifert, seems to be consistent with his brother August and his sister Anna. His sister Martha's obituary has Miefert.
