Former Lusk resident, Marlene (Story) Sides, age 88, passed away Mon., Oct. 19, 2015, at her home in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Per her request, no services will be held. A private family service will be held at a later date. A full obituary will follow.

On the evening of October 19, 2015, Marlene passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer. She was comforted by family members at Whispering Chase Retirement Facility in Cheyenne, Wyoming at the time of passing.

Marlene Story was born in Harrison, Nebraska to George and Freda (Rizor) Story on September 24, 1927. She was the first of six children and first of four daughters. After graduating from Lusk High School in 1946, she attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie for one year. Marlene married Ralph Sides on October 2, 1948 and they enjoyed sixty-three years of marriage before Ralph passed away in 2013. She often talked about the first time she saw Ralph, and his denim shirt and beautiful blue eyes. To this union were born Vicky, Monty and Ken.

Marlene spent many years ranching north of Node and raising her family. Later in her life, she went to work as the Assistant County Clerk in Lusk, lending a hand with many elections, and enjoying her time interacting with the community. Many people remember Marlene's beautiful smile and kind eyes. She had a way of making everyone feel like "family" and she was "Grandma Marlene" to people of all ages and all walks of life. Marlene spent many years as a 4-H sewing project leader, showing many younger generations the art of a straight seam. Marlene celebrated her eighty-eighth birthday on September 19, 2015 surrounded by friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; her son, Ken of Cheyenne; and brother, Rex Story of Fort Collins.

She is survived by her sisters, Georgia Fay of Cheyenne, Willadel Ihrke of Gunnison, Colorado, Amy Brewster of Tucson, Arizona; brother, Steve (Linda) Story of Big Timber, Montana; sister-in-law, Carol Story; daughter, Vicky (Brett) West of Lusk; son, Monty (Terri) Sides of Winchester, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Dawn Sides of Cheyenne; children-by-choice, Dick and Connie Baker; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and services will be announced at a later date. Donations can be made to the Niobrara 4-H Council sewing projects or the charity of your choice.
