Alfred "Andy" A. Nelson

Alfred A. (Andy) Nelson, 77, passed away on Oct. 17, 2015 at the Niobrara Health and Life Center, in Lusk, WY. Funeral services will be held at the Niobrara Fairground at 2:00 PM on Wed. Oct. 21st.

Andy was born March 20, 1938 in Lance Creek, WY. He was the son of Elmer and Billie Baker Nelson. His entire life was spent in Niobrara County. He attended schools in Lance Creek, Manville and graduated from Niobrara County High School in 1956. Following high school, he joined the Army Reserve and was stationed in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO.

On Oct. 4, 1958, he married Gloria Pate. Following their marriage Andy worked for McNeil Construction in Lance Creek, ranched for Ira Lamb, then they moved to the home place south of Lance Creek where he also worked for Plains Pipeline. In 1961 they purchased the Manville Ranch where he resided until his death. They were the proud parents of two boys, Tod and Rod. His great love was his family, dancing, and ranching.

Andy was a well known rancher, plus served on several boards including Farmers Home Administration, Key Bank Board, and 15 years on the Niobrara Electric Association.

He is survived by his wife Gloria, of 57 years, and sons Tod and wife Marilyn of Lance Creek and Rod and wife Roxie of the Running Water Ranch west of Lusk. They had 6 grandchildren - Ryan, Jeremy and wife Kelsy, Amanda and husband Joseph, Dustin and wife Kelly, Amy and husband Joe and Erin and husband TJ. They were blessed with 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Algera Jensen and her companion Dennis Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Billie Nelson.

Pier Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
