Monabelle K. Mohnsen

Funeral services for Monabelle K. Mohnsen, 88, of rural Norfolk, were held Monday, August 24, 2015, at Victory Road Assembly of God, in Norfolk, NE. Pastor Mark Rose officiated. Burial was in the Stanton Cemetery, in Stanton, NE. Home for Funerals, in Norfolk, NE, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mohnsen died Thursday, August 20, 2015, at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, NE.

Monabelle was born on April 14, 2015, in Wayne County, NE, the daughter of Raymond and Ruth (Belmer) Matthies. She was raised in Stanton and graduated from Stanton High School in 1948.

She was employed as a nurse's aide at the Lutheran Hospital in Norfolk.

On March 26, 1949, Monabelle married Leo Mohnsen. The couple made their home in Richland, NE, prior to returning to Stanton County. They purchased their farm in 1958.

Later, she was employed at Heritage of Bel Air and the Norfolk Veteran's Home. She retired in 1992.

Monabelle liked to bake and care for their livestock. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo. However, her passion was for her family.

Monabelle is survived by her husband of 66 years, Leo; their children and their spouses: Larry and Shirley, of Lusk, WY, Deborah and Douglas Buffington, of Norfolk, and Michael Mohnsen, of rural Norfolk; four grandchildren, Larry Dean Mohnsen, Jr., Sandra and Aaron Meisman, Keith and Jennifer Buffington and Brian and Dena Buffington; and six great grandchildren, Kayla Ann Mohnsen and Taylor Dean Mohnsen, Sami Jo Buffington, Devin Buffington and Ashlyn Buffington and Destiny Buffington; her siblings, Kenneth Matthies, of Crete, NE, Claydale "Doc" Matthies, of Lincoln, NE, Burton and Karen Matthies, of North Platte, NE, and Helen Hilbers, of Stanton, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
