Dorothy Jean Flaherty
CONWAY, Ark. - Dorothy Jean (Zimmerman) Flaherty, 73, of Conway, Ark. died June 2, 2015.
She was born Feb. 4, 1942 in Lusk to Lawrence E. Zimmerman and Doris Evelyn (Peterson) Zimmerman. She lived in this community from 1942 to 1972, attending elementary through high school in Lusk. She graduated from Oklahoma State University School of Technology in 1975 from licensed practical nursing. She was on the Director's Honor Roll and graduated in the top 10 percent.
She belonged to the Pentecostal church.
Dorothy's favorite color was peach and had that color all throughout her home. She loved to read, and you could usually find her sitting on her porch reading. She loved houseplants and truly had a green thumb. She collected gnomes and windchimes.
She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Everyone who knew her loved her.
Despite health issues, she kept a positive outlook on life and loved life and all it had to offer.
She was a retired licensed practical nurse, and while working, she loved her job and her patients. Co-workers would call her "White Lightning" because usually all you could see of her as she walked rapidly down the hall was the tail end of her lab coat.
She passed away at home suddenly with her two daughters by her side. She chose to be cremated and have her ashes split between her two daughters.
A Celebration of Life was held on June 6, 2015 on the lawn of the County Library where peach-colored balloons were released in honor of her memory.
Cremation arrangements were handled by Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway, Ark.
She is survived by: daughters Shanna Pierce and husband, Terry Pierce, Holdenville, Okla., Wynona Davis and husband, Scott Davis, Conway, Ark.; son, Clayton Flaherty, Topeka, Kan.; grandchildren, Joshua, Clayton, Natalie and Olivia Davis all of Conway, Meagan Wooley of Tulsa, Okla., Adre'Anne Figueroa of Holdenville, Tabitha, Thomas and Sarah all of Kansas; eight great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Mable (Zimmerman) Wade of Lusk, Bev Younie of Lusk, James Zimmerman, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence E. and Doris E. (Peterson) Zimmerman; sister, Patrica (Zimmerman) Irwin; brother, Larry I. Zimmerman; and ex-husband, Gene Flaherty.
