Carson Hathaway Passes Away, Is Buried in Lusk
Funeral Services Held in Lusk Monday, With Many Friends From North Country Attending
Carson Hathaway, 79 years old, died Saturday, November 11, of uremic poisoning, at the Manring Convalescent Home, following an illness of about two years. Five days before death, the deceased sank into a coma, from which he never revived.
Since 1920, Mr. Hathaway has resided on his homestead in the northern part of the county, or with his son, Charles E. Hathaway, who lives in the Cheyenne River district. Six weeks before his death he was brought to the Manring Home for medical treatment, but his advanced age and the seriousness of his illness made recovery impossible.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10:30, from the Peet Mortuary, with Rev. B. F. Farrar officiating. Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery, and funeral arrangements were conducted by the Peet Mortuary.
CARSON HATHAWAY
Carson Hathaway was born in Pottamattamie County, Iowa, September 25, 1854. On July 7, 1877, he was united in marriage to Hannah Hanson and to this union four children were born. The eldest son, Charles E., lives on the Cheyenne River in the northern part of Niobrara county.
Mr. Hathaway lived in Monoma County, Iowa, from the time he was four years old, until about 23, when he moved to Portaind, Oregon, where he resided for ten years. In 1920 he returned to Niobrara county, where he filed on a homestead in the northern part of the county.
Funeral services were held in Lusk, attended by a large number of neighbors and friends. The singers at the funeral services were Mrs. Etta Ellis, Mrs. C. E. Marvin, Mrs. Harriet Smith and Mrs. B. F. Farrar. The accompanist was Ms. Minera Watson.
The pallbearers were six of his neighbors, these being Gene Sheaman, Fred Sheaman, Harry Avenell, Rice Akers, Louis Struble and Len Davis.
Note: The plot in the Lusk Cemetery has no visible gravestone.
