Carrie Brown, Lusk Resident 65 Years, Dies

Miss Carrie Brown, a resident of Lusk since 1906, died in the Natrona County Hospital Tuesday about midnight. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Mrs. Brown broke her hip in a fall at her home in Lusk August 12 and had been in the Casper Hospital since that time.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. George (Margaret Ann) Miller, Denver, and one grandson of Denver.

Services Friday At Baptist Church for Mrs. Brown

Funeral service for Mrs. Carrie Brown was held Friday, Sept. 3, at 2:00 p.m. at the Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Bolinger officiating.

Mrs. Brown, 84, died August 31 in the Natrona County Memorial Hospital, Casper, where she had been convalescing from a fall.

The Baptist Church Choir sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "He Hideth My Soul." Mrs. Edna DeCastro was organist. The Eastern Star funeral service was held.

Pallbearers were Paul Morgan, L. T. Bonner, Lloyd Coleman, Johnnie Thon, Pete Germann, Gaylord Anderson. Honorary bearers were C. E. Marvin, Henry Herbers, Roy ZumBrunnen, Gilbert Brinckerhoff, Venus Kilmer, Alex Miller, Harry Fernau Sr., and Roscoe Kilmer. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Carrie Larson was born in Ana Sira, Norway, November 21, 1886, the oldest of nine children. In October 1906 she and her sister Gertrude came by boat to America and then on to Lusk to work for their aunt, Mrs. Lena Henry who ran the Northwestern Hotel. Mrs. Brown has been a resident of Wyoming for 64 years, all but five of these years which she spent in Cheyenne have been in Niobrara County. She homesteaded in her early years. On March 23, 1919, she and Peter Paul Brown were married. For many years they owned and operated the Henry Hotel and Silver Cliff Hotel in Lusk retiring in 1948. Mr. Brown died in November 1959.

Mrs. Brown was a worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star, noble grand of the Rebekah Lodge, a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Lusk.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Ann Miller, granddaughter Sharon G. Miller, and grandson Michael Siepp, all of Denver.

Relatives attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. George Miller and Sharon, Denver; Mr. and Mrs. Hank Cocking, Casper; Mr. and Mrs. John Patzek, Casper; Mrs. Bob Justus, Santa Ana, Calif.; Glenn Hansen, Thermopolis; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hansen, Thermopolis; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Berry, Denver; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Cates, Cheyenne; Mr. and Mrs. Herb Shindall, Belle Fourche, S.D., Betty Madder, Crawford; and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hansen and Mrs. Agnes Burge, Lusk. A niece, Mrs. Marie Golden, Apple Valley, Calif., was unable to attend.
