Bernice Virginia "Sally" West Brown
Graveside services for Bernice Virginia "Sally" West Brown, 89, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Spring Valley Cemetery in Monument, Colo., with Wilbur Fulker presiding. She died on July 20, 2000, at Community Hospital in Torrington, Wyo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Sally's honor to the Niobrara County Public Library at 425 South Main, Lusk, Wyoming 82225.
She was born on February 22, 1911, in Hemingford, Nebr., the daughter of Charles Sherman and Lydia (Noe) West. She grew up in the Colorado Springs area, graduating from Palmer High School. She went to beauty school and worked as a beautician in Manitou Springs. She met Leland Brown at Black Forest Social Events and they married on March 9, 1935, in Raton, New Mexico. The couple saw most of the United States while Leland was employed as a heavy equipment operator. In 1951 the couple moved back to the Black Forest area where they ranched and Sally remodeled the ranch house. She was an accomplished artist and was a member of the Black Forest Art Guild. She enjoyed the company of many friends gathering together at weekend dances. In 1998, Sally and Leland moved to Lusk, Wyo., to be closer to their family.
She is survived by her husband of Lusk, Wyoming; a son Ronald and wife Margy Brown of Lance Creek, Wyo., and a daughter Arline and husband Chuck Paulin of Bliss, Idaho; six grandchildren: Lee Brown, Robin Charlson, Scott Paulin, Kevin Paulin, Steve Paulin, Susan Hatch and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
The Colyer Funeral Home of Torrington was in charge of the arrangements.
