Georgia Faye Ward

Georgia Faye Ward, 93, of Saratoga died March 4, 1987. Services were Saturday, March 7, at the Presbyterian Church in Saratoga. Burial followed in the Saratoga Cemetery.

She was a common visitor to the Hat Creek valley.

She was born in Valton, WI on Jan. 5, 1894. Her parents were David Franklin Thompson and Mattie Maria Wells.

The family moved to Mosca, CO, for her father's health, when she was 5 years old. While there her father contacted typhoid fever and died. With her mother the family moved back to Wisconsin where she obtained her education. Georgia became a school teacher, teaching in and around Burns. Here she met Fred Ward, who was working on a ranch.

After their marriage, Mrs. Ward stayed in Wyoming and taught school while her husband answered the call of duty in World War I. After the war was over they took a homestead west of Saratoga and moved to the Platte Valley in 1925.

They raised seven children, six who survive; three sons, Thomas D. of Pinedale, Jerry F. of Cody, Neal A. of Hotchkiss, CO; and three daughters, Ruth Brock and Merle Starr of Saratoga and Winifred Bryant of Lusk. Other survivors include 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

Fred Ward Sr. died in 1979, Fred, Jr. in 1983 and Joseph and Frances in infancy.

Georgia was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the UPW, the Ladies Aid, the American Legion Auxiliary, the American Auxiliary Past Presidents and the Community Circle.

Rostad Mortuary of Rawlins was in charge of the arrangements.
