Betty Jean Lawton

A pall of gloom was spread over the community last Sunday when it was learned that Mrs. C. C. Lawton, wife of Chas. Lawton and mother of LaVergne, had passed away from the results of child-birth, a baby having been born dead a short time previous. This estimable young matron was a great favorite among her relatives and friends and her loss is deeply mourned.

The funeral service and burial took place yesterday, Rev. Blenkarn reading the sermon before a large attendance of sympathetic and sorrowing friends. The obituary will appear next week.

Mr. Lawton and Miss LaVergne have the sincere sympathy of all in their great loss.

Obituary

Jennie Hankins was born at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, March 21st, 1878, and departed this life June 24th, 1917, being 39 years, 3 months and 3 days old.

On March 8th, 1899, she was united in marriage to Charles C. Lawton at Petersburg, Ill., and from this union were born La Vergne, aged 13, and the little babe for whom the mother gave up her life and who was buried with her.

At the age of sixteen Mrs. Lawton united with the Baptist church at Mr. Pleasant, Iowa, and at the time of her decease was a member of the Baptist church at Des Moines, Iowa.

She came with her husband and daughter to Wyoming in the spring of 1913 and resided here until the time of her passing away. Besides her husband and daughter, she is survived by her father and mother, five brothers and four sisters.

Her's was a beautiful life, a kind and loving mother and a devoted and loyal wife; a true and sympathetic friend; and no words can express the void caused by her departure from this life. But her sorrowing relatives have one satisfaction to console them and that is that she was called to "come up higher."
