Leroy Franklin Redfield

Funeral services for Leroy Franklin Redfield, 85, were held at the First Baptist Church in Lusk on Sat., Feb. 8, 2014, with Pastor Brent Venable of the Manville Alliance Church and Pastor Joel Richardson of the Lusk Alliance Church officiating. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Mr. Redfield passed away Wed., Feb. 5, 2014 at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper.

Leroy was born in Mitchell, Nebr. on Dec. 21, 1928, to Clark and Marie (Roberts) Redfield, the third of five children. The family moved to Evanston, Wyo., where Leroy graduated from high school. He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in engineering, working his way through school doing auto body work. He met his sweetheart, Betty Wolfe, while at U.W., and they were married in Lusk in 1952. They moved to California, where he continued his education to specialize in aeronautical design. From that time he was employed by Boeing, Lockheed, McDonald-Douglas, and other aeronautical companies. He then became a contract engineer, which moved them to various locations: Dallas, Texas; Columbus, Ohio; Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; Wichita, Kansas; Birmingham, Alabama; and Miami, Florida, to name a few. The family moved to Lusk, Wyoming in 1972, where they managed the Ranger Hotel. Shortly thereafter they purchased the Spencer Hospital and turned it into the Hospitality House Motor Hotel. After 30 years of the motel business, they retired.

Leroy loved his family, his pets, his church family, and his friends at the Senior Center. He loved children and he loved God, as is evidenced by his involvement as a Sunday school teacher, AWANA leader, in Boys Brigade, Jet Cadets, and the Gideons. He rarely missed a sporting event at the Lusk Middle School or at the High School. He loved to sing, and was a member of various barbershop quartets and choirs. Leroy was very active in the community, serving on the City Planning Board. He was directly involved with the design and construction of the North Side walking path, the R.R. overpass, adding the nursing home wing to the hospital, and reopening the airport. Leroy was a wonderful husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and he will always be in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Marie Redfield; sister, Eleanor; brother, Jim; and son, Dave.

Leroy is survived by his wife Betty of Lusk; sisters Louise and Bernice; children Leanne, Becky, Jon, and Lisa, twelve grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials in Leroy's honor may be made to the Alliance Churches, the Niobrara Senior Center, or to the Gideons.
