Sioux pioneer Gertrude Seifert dies June 1
Gertrude Seifert, Sioux County pioneer, died June 1 at the Chadron Hospital at the age of 87. Her funeral was held Friday at United Methodist Church in Harrison and burial was in the Harrison Cemetery.
Officiating was the Rev. Wayne Tieszen, pastor of the church. Miss Ann Coffee sang special music accompanied by Mrs. Dorothy Todd, organist. Pallbearers were members of Post 7970 of Veterans of Foreign Wars - Clarence Schnurr, Albert Rabe, Octave Hanley, Verne Holtz, Bordner Munson, and Alvin Publow.
Gertrude August Noreisch Seifert, daughter of Gustave and Caroline Norissch, was born Aug. 13, 1888. She grew to womanhood on her parents' farm north of Harrison. On August 22, 1909, she married Thomas R. Seifert. Eight children were born - Frances, Gertrude, Bertrand (Bud), Marie, Carl, Lloyd, Grace and Grant.
She was a charter member and Gold Star Mother of the Ladies Auxiliary to the V.F.W., a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and Afternoon Circle, the Rebekah Lodge, Warbonnet Project Club, and Friendship Club.
Surviving are her children, Mrs. Roy (Gertrude) West, Monroe, Neb.; Bertrand, Bozeman, Mont.; Mrs. Oliver (Marie) Dunlap, Scottsbluff; Mrs. Chester (Grace) Dunlap, Harrison; and Grant Seifert, Aurora, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Plunkett and Mrs Tillie Lewis, both of Harrison; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
