Her father was a member of the SS Wieland's crew. The family arrived in the US in 1881, so she could not have been born in Davenport, Iowa. Her brother Henry, Stephen's grandfather, was born in Davenport. Stephen has visited the Neuhöfel house in Dörpling where she was born, and has a copy of her German baptismal certificate. Steven's father was born in a sod house on the Siemsen homestead outside Van Tassell August 31, 1912.
