Services for Esther Brockel were conducted Tuesday, April 25 at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald Liesmann. Burial followed in Valley View Cemetery.
Mrs. Brockel died April 22, 2000, at Torrington Community Hospital. She was born September 2, 1916, in Greeley, Colo., the daughter of Samuel Pete and Christina (Lenhart) Arntt.
At the age of 7, she moved with her family to the Torrington area to farm.
On December 17, 1941, she married Rhynie Brockel in Harrisburg, Neb. The couple then farmed in the Torrington area for the rest of their married life. Her husband preceded her in death in 1973.
In 1982 she moved to the Golden Manor and in 1998 to Goshen Care Center.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Torrington. She enjoyed dancing at the Senior Friendship Center and growing flowers.
Survivors include two sons and their wives: Rhynie Brockel, Jr., and Kenneth Brockel, both of Torrington; two daughters and their husbands: Darlene Herder of Lusk and Edna Firkus of Raycine, Wis.; three daughters-in-law; a brother George Arntt of Hereford, Texas; a sister Martha Anderson of Elko, Nev.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by seven sisters, two brothers, two sons and a granddaughter.
