Aileen Knowles
Aileen Walker Knowles, 86, resident of Lusk, Wyo., passed away on April 7, 2013at the Niobrara Health and Life Center.
She was born in Hinsdale, Ill., the daughter of Arthur and Alvina Walker. Aileen graduated from San Jose State College on June 18, 1948 and received her Bachelor of Arts with distinction. She married Dale Bradbury Collins on August 1, 1948 and had three children. On October 15, 1989 she wed David Hollis Knowles.
Aileen spent her working career at Banta Elementary School as a substitute teacher. She also taught classes for St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Tracy, California. She retired from the University of Pacific in Stockton as an Administrative Assistant to the Vice President. Aileen enjoyed quilting, and has made several blankets for foster children and spent time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. She loved the outdoors, the smell of pines, fishing, gardening, and in her earlier years cross-country skiing. She had many talents: calligraphy, art, baking apple pies, and most of all the love she gave her family and friends.
She is survived by her three children: Douglas, Steven, and Jane, all of Lusk, and five grandchildren: Crystal, Katie, Samuel, Keith, Breanna and two great-grandchildren, Orrin and Emma.
A memorial service will be held on Friday April 12 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lusk, Wyoming. In lieu of gifts, a donation can be made in her honor to the church.
