George Darrow Dies at Hot Springs Tuesday

George W. Darrow, 54, passed away at the Veteran's hospital in Hot Springs, So. Dak., early Tuesday morning, December 21, after being in ill health for the past year, following a stroke.

He was born at Oneida, New York, January 2, 1894, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Darrow, and grew up in that community, receiving his education there.

He enlisted in the Marines the day following the declaration of World War I and served on the U.S.S. Texas. Receiving his discharge the April after the Armistice was signed, he came to Wyoming, where he was employed by the Snyder Mercantile Co. for some time. Later he became bookkeeper for the U.S. Refining Company of Osage, Wyo.

It was while living there that he was married to Miss Marjorie Ord at Douglas, Wyo, on September 8, 1923. They are the parents of two sons, George Francis, who is a student at Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Robert Ord, a Junior in Lusk High School.

For a time after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Darrow lived at Osage, and then Mr. Darrow was transferred by the oil company to Lewistown, Montana, and later to Tulsa, Okla.

They later located in Rochester, New York, where Mr. Darrow followed the accounting line of work.

As a young man he joined the Presbyterian Church, was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Lewistown, Montana.

He is the last of his family, as his father, mother and only sister preceded him in death.

Surviving are his widow, Marjorie, and his two sons, George and Robert, all of Lusk, and a stepmother, Mrs. Sue Darrow of Rochester, N.Y.

Last rites were conducted from the Peet Chapel on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 22, by Rev. Lawrence P. Juell, pastor of the Congregational Church.

The song, "Lead Kindly Light" was sung by Mrs. H.J. Templeton and Miss Jeanne Miller sang "Jesus Savior Pilot Me." The soloists were accompanied by Mrs. Gerald Bardo on the chapel organ.

Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery, where the American Legion had charge of the service, which closed with the sounding of "Taps."

The casket bearers were J.W. Wolfe, Sharon Chamberlain, Hans Gautschi, Andy Malm, Wm. D. Miller and J.P. Costlow.
