Clara E. Simmons

Clara E. York was born of Christian parents, near Rockport, Illinois, December 19, 1847. At the age of eighteen she was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church. She was married to Charles Henry Simmons, December 22, 1869. To this union were born six sons and four daughters. The sons and two daughters survive her. Her husband preceded her to the unseen land seven years ago.
Grandma Simmons was stricken with paralysis Sunday, June 28, 1914. Although rendered completely helpless, her mind remained perfectly clear to the last. She seemed to know that her time had come. Her first thoughts were for her little grandson, Louis Disbrow, and she requested that he be placed in a good Christian home. She had no desire to get well, but feeling that her mission on earth had been fulfilled, she wanted to go and meet her loved ones who had gone on before. At 12:30 P.M., July 2, after bidding those around her a loving farewell, she fell asleep in Jesus.
Words of praise are not needed. The influence of her daily Christian life will live in the minds of those who knew her. Hers was a beautiful life, a triumphant death, a glorious victory.
Funeral services were conducted in the college chapel Friday afternoon by the Rev. Daniel H. Atkinson. Interment was made in the Jireh cemetery.

We wish to thank those who aided us during the sickness and death of our loved Mother. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Day, Mr. and Mrs. Osa Davis and Mr. L. E. Simmons.
Tribute of Respect
Whereas the death angel has visited our community, and has taken from our midst Mrs. Clara E. Simmons, a good and honored member of our church and Sunday school, we offer the following resolutions.
Resolved that we submit to the will of God, knowing he doeth all things well, and has taken her from her earthly home to reign with Him in Glory.
Resolved that in her life we had the example of a lovable Christian character.
Resolved that we try to so live that we too, like her may have that simple, childlike faith and trust in God in our last moments on earth that so sweetly sustained her in death.
Resolved that we extend to the bereaved children and grand children our sympathy in their sad bereavement also recommend to them her Savior as a friend and comforter.
And a copy of these resolutions be placed upon the church and Sunday school records, and published in our local paper.
