O. Rex Story

O. Rex Story, 58, of Fort Collins, Colo., died Tuesday, March 17, 1992, at the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Md., where he had gone for evaluation and possible treatment of a rare blood disease.

A prayer vigil was held Sunday, March 22, at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian burial was held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 23, at St. Jeseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Phillip Meredith officiating. Burial followed at Grandview Cemetery.

Story was born Dec. 9, 1933, at his family's ranch in Story, Neb., the son of George L. and Freda M. Rizor Story. He grew up on a ranch near Lusk, Wyo.

He served two years in the Army then moved to Fort Collins. He graduated from Colorado A & M (Colorado State University) in 1964 with a degree in agricultural business.

After graduation he purchased the Farmer and Rancher Livestock Commission Company. He became a livestock order buyer. He owned several farms in the Waverly area and part interest in two ranches on the Big Laramie River.

In 1970, Story became a licensed real estate salesman and was associated with Ivan Nichols at Trans Colorado Real Estate Company; he specialized in ranches, farms and water rights. For the past three years, he was a salesman for F&M Land Co.

Story was a member of the Larimer County 4-H Club and a county fair superintendent. He served on the Larimer County 4-H Horse Council and the Larimer County Fair Board. He also was a member of the National Champion Livestock Judging Team at the 50th International Livestock Judging Exposition in Chicago.

He was a member of the Fort Collins Board of Realtors, the Lusk Elks and St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

He married Carol Kepler on Dec. 26, 1960, in Fort Collins.

Other survivors include his mother, Freda M. Story of Fort Collins; four children, Rexan Frank, Justin Story, Jamie Story and Mindy Story, all of Fort Collins; four sisters, Marlene (Mrs. Ralph) Sides of Lusk; Georgia Lee (Mrs. Larry) Fahy of Laramie, Willadell (Mrs. Don) Ihrke of Gunnison and Amy Kemp and Tammy of Decatur, Ill; one brother, Steve Story of Walden and one granchild, R. Shafer Story.

Memorial contributions may be made to the O. Rex Story Memorial Scholarship in care of Warren-Bohlender Funeral Chapel. the scholarship will be awarded to a 4-H or Future Farmers of America member going into an agricultural field.
