Esther Viola Bartos

A funeral service for Esther Viola Bartos, 85, of Lusk, was held Nov. 23, at the Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home, with Pastor Tom Strock officiating. Interment followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Esther Bartos died Nov. 19, 2002, at Converse County Memorial Hospital in Douglas.

She was born Nov. 14, 1917, at Muskrat Canyon, Wyo., south of Manville, the youngest of five children born to George and Rena Alexander.

She attended various rural schools and graduated from Manville High School in 1934.

Esther married Floyd Bartos April 21, 1934, in Hot Springs, S. D. They raised three daughters and one son. They lived in Lost Springs for three years, and moved to Keeline in 1937.

In 1940 they purchased the George Nelson place, where they remained all their married life. Ester moved to Lusk in 1988, following Floyd's death.

She loved her life in the country and made a wonderful home for her family and all who went to visit.

Esther was an excellent cook, and cooked at the Keeline School from 1950 until the school closed. She was a great seamstress and made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed the out of doors and walked as much as she could all of her life.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and a charter member of the 5280 Club; she was recently honored as a 60-year member of the 5280 Club. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and was involved in the Manville Alumni Association

Survivors include her daughters, Gwen Longbone and husband Chief of Strasburg, Colo.; Verla Etchemedy and husband Prosper of Lost Springs; and Sheryl Jugler and husband Gene of Rock Springs, Wyo.; eight grandchildren; Tami Mikelson and Lester Longbone of Strasburg, Colo.; Shanale Phipps of Modesto, Calif.; Michelle Zimmerman of Harrison, Neb.; Mike Etchemendy of Victor , Idaho; Gregg Jugler of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Lyn Jugler of Douglas, Wyo.; and Lacee Wadsworth of Rock Springs; fifteen great-grandchildren, Ryan and James Ahrenholtz; Kyra, Brooke and Kelsey Proulx; Rachel and Nicole Etchemendy; Mackenzie, Tristan, Kirsten, Collin and Andrew Jugler; and Alexandra, Abigal and Fletcher Wadsworth; two great-great-grandchildren Bryce and Rylee Matthews; and a brother, Alvin Alexander of Torrington, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd in 1988; a son Gary in 1969; one grandson Jeffrey Jugler; one great-grandson; her parents; and three brothers, Leo, Floyd and Oscar.

A memorial is being established in Esther's name for the proposed hospital project.
