Funeral services were held at the Pier Funeral Home in Lusk with Pastor Tony Perry officiating. A graveside service was held at the Spotted Tail Cemetery, 3 p.m., CST at Jamison, Neb. on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 where Melvin entered his final resting place.
Melvin was born in Brocksburg, Neb. to John and Elizabeth Schrader on Aug. 3, 1933 He was the third oldest of 9 children. He passed from this world on June 9, 2012 peacefully at his home in Lusk, Wyo.
Melvin left home in 1954 to join the Armed Forces until 1957. Upon returning home from the service he worked in Dallas, SD, ranching and then in a grain elevator. While working there he married his wife Phyllis Schock March 16, 1958 in Naper, Neb. at the Lutheran Church. They shared 54 years of marriage.
They lived in Dallas for two more years and then moved to Brocksburg, Neb. to the family farm, where they made their living ranching, farming, and milking cows. This is where they raised three of their four children, one child preceding him in death. In 1980 they moved their family to Lusk, Wyo., where he bartended, ranched, farmed, and worked at the elevator. This is where he resided up until his death.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis, daughter Teresa, Bondurant, Wyo.; son Tim, Lusk, Wyo.; and daughter Tammy(Rob), Plain City, Utah; Grandsons Joe, Lance Creek, Wyo.; Dillon, Plain City, Utah; siblings Darlene Grayson, Donna Rezac, LaVonne Blood, Lois Erickson (Leroy), Bill (William).
He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, his infant son Daryl, his sisters Norma Weber and Karen Beiber, and brother Bub (Marvin). He may be gone, but never forgotten. All who knew him recognized his great sense of humor.
