Guy Keith Morse
Guy Keith Morse, 85, a former resident of the Cheyenne River community in the northern part of Niobrara County of Wyoming passed away on Friday April 20 2012 at his home in Camp Verde, Ariz.
Keith was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota in 1927 and was raised on the family ranch on the Cheyenne River, in northern Niobrara County, in Wyoming. He attended the Cheyenne River School, graduating from Newcastle High School, Newcastle, Wyoming in 1945. He then enlisted in the Air Corps and was stationed at the Fairfield-Suisun Army Air Base, in California. After his discharge he returned to the family ranch and continued ranching. In 1950 he married Alta Jean, the niece of Elizabeth and Tobb Kaiser, neighbors on the Cheyenne River. Keith and Jean continued to make their home on the Cheyenne River and had two children, Susan and Kenneth. Keith was very active in the community, from driving a school bus to playing Santa Claus at the Cheyenne River School Christmas programs.
In the early 1960s Keith purchased Fred Campbell's Ranch incorporating with his uncle into what was known as the Pipe Ranch. Through the next years Keith worked hard on his vision for the ranch, becoming involved in the National Farmers Organization, and range management with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee. In 1978, after receiving the news his Uncle was diagnosed with terminal Cancer, it was decided the ranch would be sold. Keith and Alta Jean moved to Gillette, Wyoming with Keith going to work for the Burlington Northern in 1978 through 1990 working his way up to engineer. In 1982 Alta Jean passed away and in 1990 Keith retired from the Railroad to his home in Camp Verde, Arizona. He was very active in the local AA group and enjoyed many years of hiking the areas of Arizona. In 1996 he remarried a local women Joyce who shared in his hiking enjoyment.
He is survived by his daughter Susan Doroski, two grandsons, Michael Doroski and Cody Doroski of Hood River Or., one sister Erna J. Beal of Oxen Hill, MD, two nieces and their husbands, Connie and John Howard of Laytonville, Md, Karen and Andrew Callahan of Arlington Heights, IL, one nephew and his wife, Bob and Beth Beal of Fairfax Station, Va.
Preceding Keith in death, are sister Jean Morse in 2011, wife Joyce Morse in 2010, uncle Donald Burton in 1987, wife Alta Jean Morse in 1982, son Kenneth Morse in 1979, mother Norma Klussman in 1974, father Mort O. Morse in 1967.
A life celebration is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday May 6, 2012 at the Camp Verde Ramada, in Arizona.
