Robert Trenholm Meets Tragic Death

Robert Trenholm, 13-year-old son of Leo Trenholm and Mrs. Mary Trenholm Allen (Allyn) was found dead early last Sunday morning at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Caley in Lusk. the boy had evidently been playing on the garage rafters at the rear of the house and in some unknown manner became entangled in a rope, which he was using so that he fell, causing death from strangulation.

Robert had been about the house until early evening and had gone outside without mentioning where he was going. When he did not appear at dinner the family (was) not concerned, since they believed that he had gone to the home of one of his friends. Later in the evening when he failed to return home they called at several homes for the lad; not finding a trace of him they decided he might have caught a ride to Orin to visit with his father who resides there.

Early Sunday morning they started to search for the lad and going to the garage found him hanging from the rafters, indications being that he had been dead several hours before he was found.

Mrs. Allen and her two sons, Robert and John Trenholm had come to Lusk from Laramie about ten days ago to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Caley. Robert was an unusually bright lad and had many young friends around town. He had been about the house during the day Saturday and had been reading and playing as usual. Taking his coat and cap the boy had left the house as was his usual custom and the family (was) not concerned until he failed to return late that night.

Evidently the boy had been playing in the rafters of the garage swinging from a rope. It is believed that he climbed up onto a rafter with the loose end of a rope in his hands and becoming over-balanced fell in such a manner that the rope became entwined about his neck and he was strangulated as he hung a few feet from the floor.
