Catherine Chaffee, Wyoming Resident Since 1919, Passes
Mrs. Catherine Chaffee passed away at the home of her son Ralph at Torrington at 1:00 o'clock Friday morning October 6th, at the age of 74 years, 6 months, and 29 days.
Catherine Vroman was born on March 7th, 1865, the daughter of eastern Nebraska pioneers. She was united in marriage to Orin E. Chaffee and her childhood and part of her married life were lived at Wayne, Nebraska until 1889 when the family moved to Boyd County, Nebraska where they resided until 1919, when they came to Goshen County, Wyoming and located on a homestead 15 miles west of Jay Em.
Her husband passed away at their home in December 1933 after which Mrs. Chaffee resided at Lingle, until the past few months when she had been at the home of her son Ralph at Torrington at the time of her passing.
She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. J. C. Jonas of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Dora Tatum of Jay Em, Mrs. Gladys Smith of Torrington and one son Ralph also of Torrington.
Mrs. Chaffee was always a very ambitious woman and had made a wide circle of friends wherever she had lived.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Marshall at the Peet Chapel in Lusk at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon, October 7, 1939. Burial was made in the Lusk cemetery. The singers were Mrs. C. E. Marvin and Mrs. Delbert Cobb with accompaniment by Mrs. J. P. Watson. The songs were "I Need Thee Every Hour," and "In The Garden." Pall bearers were Jake Wahl, F. A. Root, Robert Stigile, A. L. Sparks, W. E. Mill and Otto Klemke, Sr.
