Rebecca Howard Dies at Age of 99

Mrs. Rebecca Howard, 99 years of age, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jennie Baughn of Manville, Wednesday night July 28th.

If Mrs. Howard had lived until the 11th of the coming December she would have reached the century mark.

She is survived by two daughters Mrs. Baughn with whom she made her home and Mrs. Agatha Pielstick and a son, Harry D. Howard also of Manville.

Her husband and son, Fred preceeded her in death.

Mrs. Howard was born at New Holland, Ohio on December 11, 1843 being 16 years of age when the Civil War started.

She married Braford (Bradford) Howard who served with the Union forces and after the close of the war they made their home in Illinois for many years, later moving to Nebraska, where her husband died and about 25 years ago she came to Wyoming to make her home with her children. Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church of Manville Saturday afternoon, with Rev. Doughty of Douglas officiating.

Interment was made in the Manville cemetery. Mrs. Howard's obituary will be published next week.

Services Held for Rebecca Howard

Mrs. Rebecca D Howard, near centenarian, who passed away July 28th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jennie Baughn of Manville would have been one hundred years of age if she had lived until the 11th of the coming December.

Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church of Manville, Saturday afternoon, July 31st and interment was made in the Manville cemetery.

Rebecca D. Howard was born December 11, 1843 in New Holland, Ohio, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jennie Baughn of Manville, Wyoming on July 28, 1943, at the age of 99 years, 7 months and 17 days.

As a young girl she moved with her parents to Illinois, where she lived for a number of years. About 1862 (2/24/1863 according to research) she was married to Bradford D. Howard in Washburn, Illinois, a Civil War veteran. To this union four children were born, Agatha D. Pielstick, Jennie A. Baughn, Fred R. Howard and Harry D. Howard, three of whom survive. Her husband and son Fred preceded her in death one in 1914 and the other in 1939. One sister of Chenoa, Ill., Mrs. Lydia Abbott now 97 years old, also survives, besides 18 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

While still in her teens she united with the Baptist Church of Washburn, Ill. and remained a faithful member the rest of her life. She was always very active in church work and in the W. C. T. U. organization until recent years.
