Marjorie A. Sanders Blackmore

Marjorie A. Sanders Blackmore was born in Grand Island, Neb. on Dec. 15, 1927 to Dora Blanche Christian and Harry E. Sanders. She passed from this world on Jan. 16, 2012. When Marjorie was three years old, she moved with her mother to Wyoming and lived with her grandparents on the "Indian Creek Ranch" north of Lusk. Her young uncles and aunts treated her like their little sister. In September 1933, she went to live at the Hat Creek School where her mother had been hired as one of the two teachers and there Marjorie started first grade. In 1934, she moved to Lusk with her mother and stepfather, Lloyd F. Schaefer, and entered second grade. She graduated from Lusk High School in 1945. In high school she was elected Homecoming Queen, played the alto saxophone in the concert band and the dance orchestra, she also served in the court of the Niobrara County Fair Queen. She served on the staff of the school newspaper and enjoyed being part of the yearbook staff. After high school, she attended the University of Wyoming for a short time and then back in Lusk worked as the secretary in the Niobrara County Welfare Office.

Marge spent several years working and living in Venezuela and Chile and in west Texas. She then spent many years in the banking business in Lusk, and in the early 1980's became the first woman in the State of Wyoming to head up a bank when she transferred to Wright, Wyo., to take the helm of the newly opened bank there. In Lusk, Marge was an active of the DAR and served on the Library Board, as well as other civic organizations. She was a long time member of the Episcopal Church.

In 1989, she retired and moved to Carson City, Nev., with John Powell. Together they traveled the world, first visiting all lower 48 states in their motor home, accompanied by their beloved Daschund, Sam; and then taking a six-month land and sea cruise around the world. She always loved to travel and to see new places and make new friends. In 2001, she was back in Wyoming and living in Laramie to be close to her brother, Jay, and family.

In September 2005, she married her high school classmate, Gene Blackmore, after renewing their long ago friendship at their 60 year high school class reunion. Gene and Marge resided in Laramie until her illness in November, 2007 forced her to move to Fort Collins, Colo., for skilled nursing care.

Marge, known as "Aunt" by her nieces and nephews, loved to cook and, as everyone knew, she did love a good party. Her fun loving and outgoing nature will be missed by all those who loved her.

Marge's family thanks the fantastic staff at Shamrock Manor for the love and special care they gave her in her final days.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, James Patrick Disney, and her parents. Also preceding her in death were her stepfather, Lloyd F. Schaefer; her sister, Gwen E. Denton; her grandparents, James W. Christian and Nellie C. Zumbrunnen Christian; her Uncle, Charles Christian, and her Aunt, Edith Culver, who were like older siblings. She is survived by her husband, Eugene (Gene) Blackmore; her sister, Evelyn M. Neil, and husband Don; her brother Jay D. Schaefer, and wife, Claire; her nephews, Tracy S. Neil (Wendy), Brent S. Neil (Michelle), Paul L. Briggs (Kristy), Cameron J. Schaefer (Marelize); her nieces, Julie D. Briggs (S. Silva), and Sharon Jalene; and their children; also special friends, Bud and Betty Allen, VJ Reckling Bales, Ed Boner and Ruby Christian.

Arrangements for services will be announced at a later date.

Marjorie A. Sanders Blackmore

Marjorie A. Sanders Blackmore, age 84, of Laramie passed away on January 16, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday May 26, 2012 at the Pier Funeral Home in Lusk with Pastor Mark Lohr officiating.

Marjorie A. Sanders Blackmore will be laid to rest on June 22, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Lusk Cemetery with pastor Mark Lohr officiating in Lusk, Wyo.
