Esther Amanda Kinney

Esther Amanda Kinney, 92, a resident of Guernsey, Wyo. passed away in her sleep Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland, Wyo.

Esther was born Aug. 17, 1919 in Broadwater, Neb. to Lou and Grace (Siverly) Vierk.

Esther was reared and educated in Cairo and Grand Island, Neb. She married Ambrose Kinney April 13, 1940.

Esther and Ambrose moved to Lusk, Wyo., where they raised five children. In 1966 they moved to Gardiner, Montana where they lived for twelve years. They moved to Livingston, Montana for two years, and than to Carson City, Nev. for five years. They moved to Guernsey in 1992 to live closer to their daughter. Ambrose died Feb. 6, 2000 just two months short of their 60th anniversary.

Esther, a loving mother, was also the "go-to mom" for numerous nieces, nephews, and neighbors kids. She loved cooking, baking, and sharing it. She also had a very large garden which was canned or frozen, and raised 300 to 400 chickens a year. She liked hunting, but her greatest love of all was fishing. She was most at home with a fishing pole, crossword puzzle book, or deck of cards. She dearly loved a good Pinochle game. She was often found surrounded by a table full of kids teaching them a new card game, or having ten to twelve pairs of kids hands in a couple dish pans mixing and baking cookies on a stormy day, with each kid proudly taking home a bag full. In her spare time she would be at her sewing machine making clothes and quilts for family. She touched the hearts of everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrose; two sisters, Viola Penfield and Myrtle Ummel; one brother, Arthur; two daughters, Karen Pluntz of Casper, Wyo., and Janice Lockett of Fort Worth, Texas.

Esther is survived by her two sons, Kenneth (Shirley) Michael of Las Vegas, Nev., and Gene (Vicki) Leo, of Dayton, Nev.; a daughter, Patricia (Gene) McCoy of Guernsey; twelve grandkids: Dale and Mike Pluntz, Dorothy Vaya, Debbi Coca, Terry Ferreria, Kathy Smith, Michelle McCoy, Kevin McCoy, Earl McCoy, Eric Lockett, Sondra Cameron and Teresea Wilkes, and twenty four great grandchildren and fourteen great great grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date.

Gorman Funeral Homes were in charge of the arrangements.
