Margaret Thon

Margaret Thon, age 96, of Casper formerly of Lusk, passed away on Dec. 14, 2011 in Casper, Wyo. A funeral service was held on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lusk. Pastor Tom Strock officiating. Interment in the Lusk Cemetery.

Margaret Jennie Thon was born Jan. 21, 1915, the daughter of Martin J and Jennie G McCormick, at their homestead five miles north of Lusk, Wyo. She attended a country school known as the "Divide" school, for eight years, then went to Lusk High School, graduating with the class of 1933. As a talented piano player, she was the accompanist for the Glee Club and played for other occasions.

At the age of fourteen, her father died and she became more involved in the family farm operations, helping her brother Jesse.

She was united in marriage to Johnnie Thon on January 26, 1936. Beginning in September 1940 she lived in the vicinity of Fort Lewis, Washington to be near her husband, a Captain in the Wyoming National Guard, who had been mobilized for intensive training and when he went on overseas duty she returned to Lusk, living with her mother and brother at their home.

After WWII she and her husband, a post office employee, re-established their Lusk home purchased in 1938. She was a good homemaker and a loving devoted wife.

Over the years she kept a diary and developed an extensive scrap book collection.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lusk, having received Christian Baptism on Sept. 11, 1955. She served a number of terms as Financial Secretary and church clerk.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie; parents, and brother Jesse. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church of Lusk. Pier Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
