Lewis M. Lynn Kicked By Hose, Injuries Prove Fatal, Funeral Tuesday
Many friends of Lusk and surrounding communities were deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the sudden death of Lewis M. Lynn who passed away at the Lusk Hospital 1:15 Saturday afternoon, July 20th.
The deceased who was 62 years of age had the misfortune of being kicked and crushed by a horse, this accident taking place on his ranch home located twelve miles south of Node on Sunday evening, July 14. He was brought to the local institution immediately after the accident where he was placed in a body cast for the injuries of crushed ribs and a fractured leg. During his brief hospitalization, Mr. Lynn began showing some improvement until early Saturday morning, his condition starting to fail.
Mr. Lynn had been a resident of Goshen county for the past 26 years making his home with his family on a ranch near Jay Em. During his residence there his chief occupation was that of farmer and stockman as he was greatly interested in agriculture and livestock.
He was respected and held in high esteem by the legion of friends that knew him in Goshen and Niobrara counties.
Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with Reverend P. H. Evans officiating at the services. A quartette composed of Mrs. Abdon DeCastro, Mrs. Joe Danaher, J. M. Hungate and O.P. Harnagel sang "Old Rugged Cross," "In The Garden" and "Jesus Savior Pilot Me." Mrs. J. P. Watson presided at the piano during the services.
Pallbearers were Ferd Price, Herbert Sabin, Frank Bradley, Pete Vondra, Charley Canfield and Chuck Vondra. Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery.
Lewis M. Lynn, son of Francis Marion Lynn and Mary Jane Barkley Lynn was born in Campsville, Ill., June 4, 1878 and departed this life July 20, 1940, 1 p.m. in the Lusk Hospital, Lusk, Wyoming at the age of 62 years, 1 month and 16 days.
When but a small child the family moved to Otterville, Illinois, where he grew to manhood. Here he received his education, later attending Humbolt Business College at Humbolt, Iowa, later going to St. Louis Missouri where he spent a few years.
In 1906 he went to Panama where he was employed as a steamfitter during the following eight years construction of the Panama Canal.
Following completion of the canal he returned to the States, filing on a homestead twelve miles south of Node, in which community he has spent most of the remaining years of his life. During this time he and his family spent a few winters in Davie, Florida.
October 27, 1915 he was united in marriage to Fae Harvey in Lusk, Wyoming. To this union was born three children; one daughter Thelma, now Mrs. Robert Scoot of Hat Creek, Wyoming; and two sons, Lewis Marion and Dale Harvey residing at home.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, three brothers and a sister.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, three children, son-in-law, Robert Scott and three grandchildren, Richard, Robert and Arlene Scott; step-mother, who has been an an own mother, (as published) Mrs. Rebecca Dare Lynn of Springfield, Massachusetts; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie L. Noble of Alton, Illinois and Mrs. M. Er Dena Lundblad of Stanwood, Washington a sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna W. Lynn of St. Louis, Missouri; three brothers, Frank W. of Waterloo, Iowa, Arthur D. of Springfield; Massachusetts and Herbert M. of Davie Florida and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was a kind and loving husband and father. Held in respect and esteem by all who knew him. He was kicked and crushed by a horse on his home ranch Sunday evening July 14 this being the cause of his death six days later.
