Richard "Hank" Montgomery, 95, of Keystone Cedars, died peacefully at Mercy Medical Center on Nov. 1, 2011.

Hank was born Aug. 16, 1916, in York, Neb., to Glenn and Irene (DeBord) Montgomery, and raised in Laramie, Wyo.

Hank had many interests, including his love for music, duplicate bridge, family and friends.

He was a life long learner throughout his 95 years. Hank had many occupations, including, oil rig building, brakeman on the railroad, livestock rancher, car and truck salesman, and van driver for the Grant Wood AEA.

He was a member of First Congregational Church of Cedar Rapids and served as deacon. Hank was a past member of the Niobrara County school board as well as a Mason in Lusk, Wyo.

Hank was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth, of 60 years; parents, Glenn and Irene Montgomery; and four siblings, Bob, Barb, Betty and Babe.

Hank is survived by two daughters, Kay Kunkel (Harley) of Tehachapi, Calif., and BettyJo Hoyt (Dr. David); four grandchildren, Richard, Rhonda (Alfred), Stephanie and Bradley (Dr. Amy); two stepgranddaughters, Hope Kruse (the Rev. Donald) and Julie Pettine (Dr. John); 14 great- grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and many surrogate grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the U.S. and Germany.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at First Congregational Church on 17th Street SE. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
