Alice Ethel Blair

Alice Ethel Blair, 82, died early Saturday, June 6, 1992, at Memorial Hospital in Sidney, Neb. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, in the Greenwood Cemetery. Father Ray Grieb officiated. Memorials have been established to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

She was born Dec. 12, 1909, in Monroe, La., the daughter of Milton Porterfield and Mabel (Riley) Vollmer. She moved with her family to Lusk, Wyo. in 1914. She graduated from Lusk High School in 1929. She then taught school at Hat Creek.

On July 5, 1938, she married John H. Blair and moved with him to Ft. Robinson, Neb. They moved to Sidney, Neb. in 1947 where her husband worked at the Sioux Army Depot. In 1958 the family moved to Sioux Villa in Sidney where she resided at the time of her death.

She worked at various places in Sidney, including Memorial Hospital, The Ft. Sidney, the Ben Franklin Store, the Dick Cabela family and last as a foster grandparent for Head Start.

She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, the Sidney B.P.O. Does, the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post #610 and was a long time member of the Rebecca Lodge.

She is survived by one son, Richard Blair , Clarksville, Tenn.; three brothers, Frank Vollmer, Windsor, Colo., Bob Vollmer, Lusk, and Pat Vollmer, Greeley, Colo.; three sisters, Mabel Brown, Lingle, Helen Heminger, Lusk and Shirley Ahl, Rawlins; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a daughter, Wanda.
