J. H. Putnam Dies Suddenly
Manville was startled last Monday when word reached here of the death of our well known and honored citizen, John H. Putnam which occurred at 10 a.m. that morning at his farm north of the city. Death was caused from heart failure. He and his son Leo were getting water at a spring on their farm, when suddenly he was stricken and fell forward, dying instantly. His son worked diligently for some time trying to restore life but his efforts were futile and he hurried to the nearby oil camps for assistance. The remains were brought to Manville the following day and Undertaker Boyd of Lusk took charge of them.
This death is doubly sorrowful for the family, coming as it did, when Mrs. Putnam, wife of the deceased, was in Wisconsin at the bedside of her mother whose health is failing rapidly with death expected at any moment.
The funeral services were held here today the Masonic Order of Lusk conducting the services he being a Mason. - Niobrara County News

Obituary
John H. Putnam was born in Albany, Wisconsin, May 15, 1863 and died on his farm north of Manville, Monday December 3, 1917 from the effects of heart failure. The greater part of his life was spent at his birthplace at Albany, Wisconsin, where he was married on the first day of September 1887.
In the year 1912 the family moved to Boulder, Colorado, where they remained until August 1914, when they came to Wyoming and settled on government land north of Manville, which has been his home until death overtook him.
He leaves to mourn their loss besides a host of friends both here and elsewhere, a wife and son Leo, of Manville, a brother in South Dakota, and a mother and sister in Albany, Wisconsin.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Albany, Wisconsin.
