Joe Bonner

Joe Bonner, 82, of Laramie, died Sunday, April 24, 2011 at the Laramie Care Center. He was born July 28, 1928 in Holyoke, Colo. to Emerson and Maude (Kaufman) Bonner. He grew up in Lusk, Wyo. He married Ellen Jordan on Aug. 3, 1945.

After moving to Laramie in 1958 he went to work at the University of Wyoming as the signwriter until his retirement. He was most artistic in his ability to letter signs. He loved to sing and sang with the Laramie Barbershoppers for several years. He liked to bowl and was an avid golfer. He and Ellen enjoyed dancing especially a good polka. In his later years his passion turned to tying flies. Many great times were spent with family at the cabin. He entertained many with his story telling abilities. Joe was a lifetime member of the Elks.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ellen, and an infant son, Jackie Ray.

He is survived by his two daughters, JoEllen and her husband Rick Anderson of Albany, Wyo.; and Dixie and her husband Jim Schuler of Golden, Colo.; his four sons, Jim Bonner of Laramie; Steve Bonner and his wife Barbara of Elk Mountain, Wyo.; Bernard Bonner and his wife Doris of Springfield, Tenn.; and Mike Bonner and his wife LeaAnn of Mesa, Ariz.; his 19 grandchildren; his 34 great grandchildren; and his one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his brother, Butch Bonner and his wife Molly of Afton, WY; and his several nieces and nephews.

At his request cremation has taken place.

The family is inviting friends to join them in a celebration of life get together at the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 582, 102 S. 2nd, Laramie, WY on Sunday, May 1, 2011 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
