Mother of Joe Wise Dies in Casper
Mrs. Eva Weiss, 70 years old, mother of Joe Wise of Node, passed away in Casper, Thursday afternoon, January 24th, at 2:35 o'clock, at the home of her sons, Leo and Dave, of Casper.
Mrs. Weiss suffered a stroke last November at Node, Wyo., at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wise, and since that time has been in failing health. She suffered another stroke on January 19, which was followed by another on Wednesday evening, January 23, becoming paralyzed on the left side. Her condition was considered critical and her sons and one daughter were called to her bedside. She passed away the following day at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 6 days.
The body was shipped to Peoria, Ill., Friday, January 25th. Interment was made on the following Monday, where she was laid to rest beside her husband, who preceded her in death in 1919 and six children, who also preceded her in death. Her body was accompanied by Joe and Leo Weiss and Sarah Rosenbaum to Peoria.
She is survived by six children - Joe Wise of Node, Jack of Denver, Dave and Leo of Casper and Harry of Escalon, Calif., Sarah Rosenbaum of San Francisco and six grandchildren, Ruth, Maurice and Henry Wise, all of Node, and Toots, Frank and Harold Weiss of Denver.
Harry Weiss was confined to his bed at Escalon, Calif., and could not be informed of his mother's death.
Services were conducted by Rabbi Pincus at Ziegler's Mortuary and at the Orthodox Jewish cemetery in Peoria, Ill.
Mrs. Weiss was born in Austria in 1864 and came to America in 1881. Living in Cincinnati, Ohio, for a short time, she afterward made her home in Peoria in 1897 In April, 1914, she came to Wyoming, living with her son, Joe, on the ranch near Node, where she homesteaded later. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors for forty years.
