Elijah Wanker, old-Time Resident, Dies at Home Monday
Elijah Wanker, 65 years old, resident of the Manville community, passed away at the ranch home near Manville, on Monday, April 22, at 9:45 p.m., the cause of his death being cancer of the liver, from which he had been suffering for the past two years.
Ten days previous to his passing he went through the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minn., but little hope was held out there for him, and he returned the following week.
Mr. Wanker is survived by his wife, four sisters and two brothers.
He was born in Gentry County, on November 22, 1869. When a child he moved with his parents to Ainsworth, Neb., later moving to Brocksburg, Neb. where he worked as a blacksmith. At that city he met Miss Minnie Kirst and they were united in marriage at Mount Aire, Iowa, December 19, 1899. Following his marriage he moved to Manville, where he took up a homestead and has resided there since.
Funeral services will be held in Manville, Thursday afternoon, at 2:30 in the Methodist Church, with Rev. B. F. Farrar officiating, if the weather permits. The services were to have been held Wednesday, but due to the severity of the storm were postponed to Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Fred Kettler, Bud Cantwell, Walter Gordon, Robert Burhoop, Jacob Salak and Frank Blankenship. Mrs. Howard of Manville will have charge of the music.
Relatives of Mrs. Wanker who arrived for the funeral services were Mrs. Ella Hoyt of Naper, Neb., Amelia Kirst and Mrs. Frances Jeffords of Brocksburgh, Neb.; Lety Haight, Merl Haight and Elmer Swick, all of Merriesville, Nebr.

Last Rites Held For E. H. Wanker
The funeral of Elijah H. Wanker, well known Niobrara county farmer and rancher who died last week, was held at the Manville M. E. church last Thursday, the Rev. B. F. Farrar of the Lusk Baptist Church officiating. Interment was made in the Manville Cemetery, arrangements being in charge of the Midwest Mortuary of Lusk.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Kirt Baughn, Ras Baughn, with Mrs. Richards at the piano. The hymns were "Abide With Me" and "Nearer, My God, to Thee".
The pallbearers were Fred Kettler, T. L. Cantwell, Walter Gordon, Robert Burhoop, Ed M. Arnold and Frank Blankenship.
