James L. McMurtry, 66, Dies Saturday in Lusk: Funeral Services Here Monday

James L. McMurtry, 64 years old, a highly respected citizen of Lusk, father of Mrs. Rula Roberts of Hat Creek, passed away at 1:15 o'clock last Saturday afternoon, April 27th, following complications following a surgical operation on April 18th.

The immediate cause of his death was general peritonitis. His condition was such at the time of the operation little hope was held out for his recovery, but he was thought to be on the road to recovery when he took a sudden turn for the worse.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Congregational Church, Rev. George B. Jenkins officiating. Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery, arrangements being in charge of the Peet Mortuary.

The Odd Fellows Lodge, of which deceased was a member, had charge of the services at the grave, and both Odd Fellows and Rebekahs attended the services in a body.

Music at the church services was furnished by Mrs. Edna Howard DeCastro, Mrs. Floyd Deuel, Mr. Ford Kuns and Mr. R. A. Faulk accompanied by Miss Alice Fowler.

Pallbearers, members of the Odd Fellows Lodge, were J. D. Lorenzen, E. O. Bump, Jalmer Thon, A. A. Thon, Kay Wilson and R. J. Barnes.

Mr. McMurtry, who was an old-time Burlington railroad employee, and had made his home in Lusk since 1929, when he retired from the service of the company. He was a fine citizen and had a host of friends both in Lusk and at his old home in Nebraska, who will mourn his passing.

One brother, Roy McMurtry, came to Lusk from his home in Anselmo, Neb., to attend the services.

James L. McMurtry was born in Knox County, Illinois, the second son of Andrew and Ruth McMurtry. At the age of 5 years he moved with his parents to Bedford, Iowa, where he lived until 1886, when the family moved to Broken Bow, Nebraska. Here as a young man he met Mary Francis Pickett, to whom he was married December 16, 1891. A great part of his life was spent in the employ of the Burlington Railroad. This was his work until 1929, when his health failed and he took up his residence in Lusk, Wyoming. He has been a faithful member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge. He united with the Congregational Church at Dunning, Nebraska, in 1912. His family will remember his as a faithful and loving husband and father.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mary F. McMurtry; two sons, Cyrus of Casper, and Claude of Itavena, Neb.; his grandchildren; also three brothers and one sister. His father and mother, three sisters and two brothers have preceded him in death.

And we who have known and loved him,
And whose passing has brought sad tears,
Will cherish his memory always,
To brighten the drifting years.
