Jacob Lee ZumBrunnen
In Memoriam
Jacob Lee ZumBrunnen was born Feb. 4, 1884, at Red Oak, Iowa; he died Jan. 6, 1911, at Sheridan, Wyo., being 20 years, 11 months and 3 days old. When five years old he came with his parents to Wyoming. About seven years ago he went to Newcastle, this state, to work in the roundhouse of the Burlington railroad withe the ultimate object in view of becoming an engineer. By hard and faithful work his ambition was realized, and for the last three years he has been running an engine on the Sheridan division of the Burlington. He was an honored member of the Brotherhood of Firemen and Locomotive Engineers and was twice sent as a delegate to the National Convention of that important body, once to Chicago and again to St. Paul, and was the local chairman of the Grievance committee.
That he was loved, respected and honored was shown by the many beautiful flowers and floral offerings which were placed on his casket by loving hands. Funeral services were held at Sheridan, Monday, Jan. 0, at 4 o'clock p.m., Rev. Kendall of the M. E. church officiating, and preaching a beautiful sermon appropriate to the occasion. On Tuesday at 11 o'clock a.m., further services were held at Newcastle, where the remains were laid to rest in the beautiful Greenwood cemetery.
On April 24, 1907, he was married to Mabelle Severens, and one little boy came to bless their union. Besides his widow and young son, there are left to mourn his loss his father, mother, three sisters and four brothers, and a host of relatives and friends. It is indeed sad that one so young and with such bright prospects before him should be cut down so ruthlessly and suddenly, but all we can say or do is to bow our heads and whisper "Thy will be done."
