Services Held Here Sunday For Ira Wilson, 60-Yr. Resident

Ira L. Wilson, nearly sixty years a resident of this county, passed away at his home at Lance Creek, Friday, June 21 at 3:40 a.m. after being ill several weeks.

He was born July 19, 1883 at Machinaw, Illinois, and came to Wyoming at the age of five with his parents, Lorenzo and Clara Bell Wilson, and lived here most of his life, making his home at Manville and Lance Creek. About ten years were spent at Wellington and Fort Collins, Colorado.

September 12, 1908 he was married to Miss Ione Remster at Jireh, Wyoming. They are the parents of seven children.

He was engaged in ranching as a young man, but for the past 26 years has been employed by the various oil companies, starting to work for the Union Oil company of California in 1920.

Mr. Wilson was highly respected by his neighbors and those with whom he worked. He was a charter member of the Roosevelt Masonic Lodge of Manville when it was organized on October 12, 1920, and was a past president of the Niobrara County Pioneer Association.

He became ill several weeks ago and was brought to a Lusk hospital and after receiving treatment for some time was moved to his home, where he passed away surrounded by members of his family.

Surviving him are his wife, Ione and their seven children, Mrs. Bertha Merna and Mrs. Wilma Merna of Cheyenne, Miss Verda Wilson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Beryl Dickerson, David, Harley and Fred Wilson all of Lance Creek; two sisters, Mrs. May Baker of Baggs, Wyo., and Mrs. Josephine Chapman of Billings, Mont., three grandchildren, Patricia, Judith and Teddy Ann Merna of Cheyenne, Wyo.

Funral services were held from the Peet Chapel on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 with Rev. Robert Midgley of Manville officiating.

The songs "Does Jesus Care?" and "Abide With Me" were sung by Darryl Manring, Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. Ezra Duncan, with Mrs. J. P. Watson presiding at the instrument.

The Masonic commitment services were held at the grave side in the Lusk cemetery, with C. E. Marvin officiating.

Friends who bore the remains to the last resting place were Carl Baughn, Ray Baughn, Charles V. Lee, Clint Dern, Beecher Strube and Mr. Boston.

Lance Creek Pioneer Dies Here Friday

This community was saddened Friday by news of the death of Ira Wilson, one of the county's real pioneers. Mr. Wilson had been in failing health for several years and his recovery was not expected.

He was widely known throughout this section of the State, where he had a host of friends. His passing closes one of the most colorful chapters in Lance Creek's interesting history.
