Maynard Eugene Clark was born October 13, 1910, at Garden City, S. D. As a tiny infant he was adopted by Fred and Dollie Clark.
He graduated from Alden, Iowa, High School and attended college at Cedar Falls, Iowa. On November 9, 1934, he and Estella Kuenkel were married. They made their home in Alden where he worked as a plumber until July, 1962, when he went into the plumbing business.
He was a member of the Congregational Church and Niobrara Chapter 26, OES of Lusk, and Radiant Lodge of Alden. Mr. Clark was active in many civic, church and school activities.
The Rev. Frank Blish officiated at the memorial service. Music was provided by Wanda Hansen, organist, and Gayleen Percival and Polly Johnson who sang "Amazing Grace" and "Beyond the Sunset."
At the request of the family, the following poem written by Mr. Clark was read;
When I die
When I die, may I die in grace; and please, with a smile upon my face.
A smile for the friends I leave behind, a smile for the joy I'm going to find.
A smile for the time I spent on this earth, a smile for mother who suffered my birth.
A smile for the parents who took me as their own, and loved me and cared for me until I was grown.
A smile for the teachers who helped guide my life and kept me on the right path until I married my wife.
A smile for the children this marriage produced; Bette, Marilyn, Gary, and Jim -- the caboose.
A smile for the good God, way up above, who regulates life and death and is the steward of love.
And finally a smile for all mankind and may they somehow--sometime find the one and only tie that bind.
--Maynard Clark
