Edward (Ed) Alfred Morgan

Edward (Ed) Alfred Morgan was born August 24, 1923 at home in rural Montgomery county, Penn. He was the sixth of eight children of Pennsylvania natives, Alfred M. and Anna Elizabeth (Hallowell) Morgan. The family moved to Hill Church, Burks County, Penn. when he was six months old. He was educated at Hill Church and Fagleysville, Penn.

Ed served in the Navy during World War II and the Air Force during the Korean War, including duty in the Panama Canal Zone, Korea, and Japan. While on leave in June 1952 he visited his brother George, and family in Kuner, Colo. It was his first sample of the west that would become his home years later.

He settled in Brookley AFB, Mobile, Alabama where he stayed until his discharge in 1953. In Mobile he met and married Diane Gattis White April 15, 1953. There they raised a family of her three children from a previous marriage and their two children, Barbara and Richard, until divorcing in 1969. After service Ed worked for the Air Force as a Civil Service employee, first in Mobile, Ala. and later transferring to Sacramento, Calif. as an Aircraft Electronics Engineering Technician and Instructor. Ed retired from Civil Service June 30, 1972.

Since retirement Ed lived in California, Nevada, Utah and New Mexico before settling in Lusk. He moved here from Colombus, N.M. June 1997. A wanderer at heart, Ed traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, and Australia. He was a life member of Veteran's of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and NRA. He chose not to be anonymous about his membership in Alcoholics Anonymous. Sober since September of 1980, he was an active member. He voluntarily held AA meetings at the Women's Center three and four times a week for more than five years.

Ed is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Barbara and David Burch, three grandchildren and their spouses, Chandra (Tadd) Manning, Brandon (Christina) Meadows, and Jacqueline (Rob) Cornwell, three great grandchildren, Gabrielle Meadows, Krysta Noe, and Bella Cornwell all of Jacksonville, Fla., one brother Thomas Elwood Morgan of Spring Creek, Nev. Uncle Ed" was a favorite uncle to Thomas' family as well as four generations of other nieces and nephews from all over the country, that include Trisha and Mike Eaton of Lusk, their daughters Cindi Marcum (and family) of Gering, Neb., Cheri Miller of Arvada, Colo., and Christine (Tom) Pope of Trego, Mont.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, Diane, six siblings, their spouses, and five nephews.

Memorial services will be held at the First Baptist Church Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 at 2 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Niobrara Senior Center in lieu of flowers.
