Mary Jane Rice
Obituary
Mary Jane Penny was born in Illinois, Nov. 26, 1851, and was married to Geo. H. Rice in December, 1874. They moved to Downs, Kansas, in 1875, where they resided until June, 1909, when they moved to Hat Creek, Wyo., where she made her home until her death, Oct. 21, 1912.
To their union were born eight children, five girls and three boys, six of whom, with their father, are left to mourn her loss. Mrs. Louretta Clark, Mrs. Edith Goeden, George L. and Ben Rice are living at Hat Creek, Wyo.; Miss Cleora Rice at Jewell, Kans.; Charles H. Rice, whose address is unknown. Also four brothers and four sisters whose addresses are: John Penny, Russell, Kans.; George and James Penny, Streator, Ill.; Sylvester, Belle and Cynthia Penny, Manville, Ill.; Mrs. Barbara McGee, Streator, Ill.; and Mrs. Anna Jackson, China Flat, California.
The deceased was a faithful member of the First Congregational church of Downs, Kansas, from 1902 until the date of her death. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Alex. Corbett, of Lusk, at her late home, Oct. 24, and the body was laid to rest on their homestead.
