Funeral services for William Lawrence "Bill" Haas, 89, of Torrington, were held Aug. 9, 1999, at St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin Koch officiating.
A wake service was held Aug. 8. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.
Mr. Haas died at his home Aug. 5, 1999.
Bill was born December 31, 1911, the son of Dominic and Catherine (Birnbaumer) Haas on his father's homestead near Montrose, Neb., in northern Sioux county. He grew up there and received his education in the local country school.
He married Elsie C. Kebl on September 29, 1937, in Chadron, Neb. They moved to Cleveland, Ohio. He later became a brick mason and worked for the same company for 30 years.
They retired to Torrington in 1974.
He was a licensed gunsmith and a member of the National rifle Association for over 50 years.
He believed no one should ever be bored with life when there was so much to be read and so much to be learned. He loved the outdoors, ranch life, hunting and fishing.
He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Clara and his brother Charlie, both of Harrison; two sisters, Florence Stewart of Denver, Colo., and Lucile and her husband Bernard Culek of Kimball, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elsie, his parents, four brothers and one sister.
A memorial has been established to the Special Touch Program at Community Hospital in Torrington.
Colyer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
