Death Takes Pioneers During Past Week

Another Niobrara County pioneer answered the call when Malter Larson, 86 years of age, passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Monday, January 3, after an illness of several months.

Born in Jutland, Denmark, in 1857, he came to the United State(s) as a young man of 19, and homesteaded in Wyoming 54 years ago, and it was on the ranch east of Lusk that his family was raised.

Surviving him is his wife and three sons, Ralph, Ray and Warren, and one daughter, Mrs. Sam Thomas, all of this community; three other daughters also survive. They are Mrs. Cecil Halderman of Torrington and Mrs. Ted McConaughey of Borger, Texas, and Mrs. Irene Lewis of Front Royal, Va. There are also 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren surviving.

Funeral services will be held from the Peet Chapel at 2 o'clock on Thursday afternoon and interment will be in the Lusk Cemetery.

A more complete obituary of Mr. Larson is not now obtainable, but will be published next week.

MALTER LARSON

Funeral services for Malter Larson, one of Niobrara county's pioneer residents, were conducted from the Peet chapel last Thursday afternoon, with the Rev. Clyde Hampton in charge. Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mrs. H J. Templeton, Miss LaVerne Johns, O. P. Harnagel and Palmer Watson, with Mrs. J. P. Watson at the organ. Wm. Magoon, Clarence Sides, Don Paisley , Andrew Christson, Herbert Sabin and Roy Turnbull were casket bearers.

Mr. Larson died January 3rd from a heart attack. He was born at Jutland Denmark, July 7, 1857. When a young man of 19 he came to America and spent some years around Joliet, Ill.

In 1885 he came to Columbus, Nebr., where he met and married Martha Lohr. They became the parents of seven children.

In the spring of 1889, the family moved to Wyoming and since that time Mr. Larson has made his home on his ranch seven miles east of Lusk. He has been a hospital patient since the middle of November.

Surviving relatives include his widow, Martha Larson, three sons, Ralph of Lusk, Raymond of Hat Creek and Warren of Douglas; four daughters, Mrs. Geneva McConaughey of Borger, Tex., Mrs. Clara Thomas of Harrison; Mrs. Irene Lewis of Frnot Royal, Va. and Mrs. Cecil Holdeman of Torrington; fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
