Dell D. Caley Dies Tuesday Evening

Death came as a release from suffering to Dell D. Caley on Tuesday evening, Dec. 12th.

Active in the business life of Lusk for many years, Dell Caley underwent an operation for cancer about seven years ago and has been an invalid since that time.

During the past two years he has been cared for at the home of Mrs. Ida Peterson, but his condition became more critical during the last two weeks and on last Thursday he was moved to the Spencer Hospital, where he passed away about six o'clock Tuesday evening.

Dell Caley was born on a farm in Fulton County, Illinois, December 19, 1871, the son of R.V.S. Caley and Emmory Helms Caley. The family moved to Nebraska while the children were still small and as a young man Mr. Caley worked for a time in St. Joseph, Mo., then in 1902 he came to Douglas, Wyo., where he entered the employ of the Metcalf Mercantile Co.

Here he met Martha Hamilton and they wee married in 1905. From the years 1908 to 1916 he traveled for the Amberson Hydraulic Company, which took him over many of the Eastern and Southern States.

In 1917 they returned to Douglas, where Mr. Caley became bookkeeper for the LeBar Garage, and later for the Douglas Mercantile. Then he operated his own grocery business until 1929, when he bought an interest in the Snyder Mercantile Co. of Lusk and moved his family here.

When that firm went out of business he bought out the Best Grocery which became known as "Caley's," and which he operated until ill health caused him to close out.

He was a man of sterling qualities, a good husband and father. As a youth he joined the Methodist church and then in 1938 he united with the Baptist Church of Lusk.

Besides his wife, Martha, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Allyn of Laramie, and Mrs. Della Kinsport of Kodiak, Alaska; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Parker and Mrs. O. D. Thompson, both of Farnam, Neb., and two grandchildren, John Trenholm of Alaska and Della Allyn of Laramie.

Two sisters and one brother have preceded him in death, one of the sisters passing away about a month ago.

Funeral services will be held from the Peet Chapel on this Thursday afternoon at 1:30, and burial will be made in the family lot in the Douglas cemetery.
