Dorris Christian, Niobrara County Clerk Since 1965, Dies Saturday

Mrs. Frank (Dorris) Christian, 59, Niobrara County clerk died Saturday after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Christian had been hospitalized on numerous occasions in Casper but died in an ambulance plane en route to Denver after she became acutely ill Saturday morning.

Mrs. Christian became county clerk February 2, 1965, when she was appointed to fill an unexpired term. She was elected twice on the Republican ticket after the appointment. She had been City Clerk of Lusk from 1956 to 1962 under Mayor Joe Jones.

Funeral Service was being held this Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Peet Chapel. The Rev. Robert Boutwell was conducting the service with Mrs. J. P. Watson, organist.

Casket bearers were Ray Olafson, Al Taylor, Harold Rogers, S. E. West, G. L. Pfeifer and R. C. Bafford with burial at the Lusk Cemetery.

Dorris Beth Townsend was born August 2, 1913, at Kimball, S. D. the youngest of eight children born to Anna Bressler and Charles Willis Townsend. She attended school in Kimball and graduated from high school there in 1931. She married Frank Christian August 23, 1936, at Riverton in the home of John and Nellie Thode.

The Christians worked on a ranch north of Lusk for a few years following their, marriage. After that they lived in Denver and Omaha before returning to Lusk. She had lived in Lusk continuously for the past 28 years and had been the representative for Hamilton Management in this area for twenty years.

Mrs. Christian was a charter member of the Lusk P. B. O. Does.

She is survived by her husband Frank; one son, Steve and six grandsons of Casper. She is also survived by three brothers and one sister. Her parents, one brother and two sisters died previously.

The family has requested that memorials be made to the Blue Envelope Cancer Fund, Casper.

The Niobrara County Commissioners plan to meet after the funeral to appoint a clerk.
