Boneita M. "Bonnie" Yocum, 86, of Cheyenne died March 17 at the Davis Hospice Center. She was born Aug. 25, 1923, in Chadron, Neb., to Frank and Effie McAndrew. She grew up in Chadron and attended Chadron State College, where she met the love of her life, Rex Yocum. They were married in 1943 in Washington, D.C. While in Washington, D.C., she worked for the Washington Board of Trade and Rex was stationed at the War Department Code Center at the Pentagon.
They moved to Lusk in 1946, where she was a stay-at-home mom and Rex taught music. In 1958, they moved to Cheyenne. Bonnie worked in the Cheyenne public schools for many years. She was a past Honored Queen of Job's Daughters and was active in Eastern Star for many years. She served as the Sunday school superintendent at the First Congregational Church.
Bonnie was a 59-year-member of P.E.O. and had served as president of Chapter I in Lusk and was currently a member of Chapter C. She was a member of Retired Teachers, Cheyenne Dance Club and Zion Congregational Church. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving, kind, gentle lady with a wonderful sense of humor.
Bonnie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Rex Yocum of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two children, Barbara "Bobbie" (John) Nicholson and Rex "Rusty" (Anne) Yocum; four grandchildren, Shannon (Doug) Simpson, Ryan (Mara) Nicholson, David (Stacie) Yocum and Mark (Rachel) Yocum; eight great-grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. today at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with Chaplain David Stratton and the Rev. Elmer Wilhelm officiating. Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens. Private family interment of her urn will take place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be Elizabeth Oakes, Elizabeth Beckman, Nyla Bell, Jean Leichliter, Fern Gullett, Paula Baldshwiler, Marge St. Clair, Joy Kraner, Beth Singkofer, Angie Morrison, Nancy Reckling, Lynn Wahl and Lola May Ehler.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Davis Hospice Center, P.E.O. Chapter C Education Fund or Zion Congregational Church.
