Lottie Deuel

Mrs. James Deuel (nee. Lottie Knauts), who had been so very sick for the last month, passed away last Friday. On Thursday it was thought best to send her to Cheyenne, so she left for there that day, but she was so weak and the long trip was so fatiguing to her that she died on Friday. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Gleason chapel, Cheyenne, where a number of friends were in attendance. Mr. Deuel left for home Monday morning accompanied by the remains of his wife. A short service was held Tuesday forenoon at the W. O. W. hall, Kirtley, and a large concourse of people came out to show their respect for the family. Interment was made in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery. Mrs. Deuel is survived by her husband and little son about nine months old. The obituary will appear next week.

Lottie Knauts Deuel

Lottie Knauts was born in Michigan, June 2, 1876 and came to Illinois when quite a small child, later moving near Greenfield, Iowa about 1888 where she spent about 17 years of her life. From there she went to Princeton, Illinois, residing there and in New Jersey about four years. She came to Wyoming in May, 1910, spending most of her time in and around Harrison, Nebr., and Kirtley and Lusk, Wyo. She left Lusk on Thanksgiving Day for Los Angeles, California, where she remained until Dec. 12, 1911, when she started for Crawford, Nebr., arriving there Dec. 16, where she was met by James C. Deuel who accompanied her on the evening train to Chadron, Nebr., where they were united in marriage at 9 p.m. by Rev. A. R. York. They made their home near Glen, Nebr., until spring when they came to Pleasant Ridge, Wyoming, to live on Mr. Deuel's homestead which has since been their home. Their married life was very happy and on Oct. 8, 1912, a bright baby boy came to bless their home. She always seemed in the best of health until about a month before she passed away when heart trouble set in and her last days were very miserable. She expressed a desire to go to Cheyenne, Wyo., for treatment and was taken there June 26, everything being done that could be done but notwithstanding death claimed her and she passed peacefully away June 27, at 1:40 p.m.

Funeral services were held Sunday June 29, at Gleason chapel, Cheyenne, and on Monday Mr. Deuel accopanied the remains home where on Tuesday at the W. O. W. hall, Kirtley a very appropriate services was held. A large assemblage of friends came out to pay their last respects to the departed and to show their sympathy to husband and little one who are left without a loving wife and mother. Interment was made in Pleasant Ridge cemetery.

Her many friends will miss her pleasant smile and cheerful voice but her work on earth is done and although she has left us, her kind words and cheerful disposition will ever live in our memory and she deserves the Master's benediction, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"

Besides here husband and baby she leaves a father in Idaho and a brother, M E. Knauts and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Beam of Greenfield, Iowa. The sympahty of all is theirs.
